Cool Company is a part of Verdane Capital Holdings and has been operating as an independent contracting company (or umbrella payroll provider) for more than 10 years. During that time we have learned a great deal, which we then put into practice, and we are always keen to gain new insights into how we can be the best partner possible.

We currently operate in three countries where freelance and consultancy work through independent contracting is growing in popularity year on year. More than 100,000 freelancers, consultants, students, hobbyists and people with second jobs have invoiced for their services through Cool Company. A flexible and secure option – plain and simple.

FAQ

If you have worked through us and received your invoice payment, you can get an employment certificate. To obtain one, please log in to your Cool Company account. Then click on “Wages” in the left menu and select “Documents & Certificates”. Finally, choose the option “+New certificate”.

To facilitate processing, you can specify your job title in the free text box.

Our processing time is 14 working days. Please note that we can only issue certificates for periods and invoices that have been paid.

As a self-employed person with Cool Company, we ensure that you are insured and secure. We offer probably the best insurance coverage on the market for self-employed individuals. You are always covered by our occupational injury (TFA) and group life (TGL) insurances when you are on assignments approved by Cool Company. In most cases, you are also covered by our liability insurance.

For assignments in construction and renovation, you need to take out additional insurance specifically tailored for construction. Since many of Cool Company’s self-employed individuals work in construction, we have been able to negotiate a very competitive liability insurance with Trygg Hansa. If you want to know more about our affordable insurances for construction assignments or our other insurances, please contact customer support.

Cool Company reports to the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) on a monthly basis, and a control report is prepared on your account in connection with this.

You can apply for the wellness allowance directly on the platform. Deductions for wellness can be made up to an amount of SEK 3,600 per year, provided that you have been self-employed via Cool Company during the period. You can find the wellness page under “benefits and promotions” in your profile.

Cool Company handles your sick leave reporting. To report sick leave, fill in the information here.

Remember that you need a doctor’s certificate from the first day of illness to receive sick pay. So, you need to upload a medical certificate from the first day of sickness, which you can do in the form.

Your tax level is automatically set at 22%, but you can change to a higher tax level if you wish. To change your tax level, you need to be logged in to your account. Under settings, choose the desired tax level under the A-tax heading.

You can find your payslips when you log in to Cool Company.

The payslip for the current month is updated for each withdrawal you make. The specifications for previous months contain the complete accumulated summary.

Sick leave certificate – how does it work?

If you fall ill, you need to report sick to your client and submit a sick leave certificate to receive sick pay. You must submit the certificate from the first day of illness, known as a first-day certificate. You can submit the certificate by uploading it in the form. If you are sick for more than 14 days, you need to contact your client again. After that period, sick pay ends and can be replaced with sickness benefits from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan).

A sick leave certificate is issued by a doctor or dentist depending on the cause of your illness. It is not possible to obtain a sick leave certificate from, for example, a nurse or physiotherapist.

Once you recover, you should notify your client.

To obtain a sick leave certificate, you need to see a doctor who, after examination and assessment, will issue a certificate confirming your illness. Once the doctor has issued a sick leave certificate, you can often find it on the 1177 Healthcare Guide service under “My certificates.”

To receive sick pay when you are ill, a doctor needs to certify that you are too ill to work. Neither you nor your employer can determine this.

The most common way to see a doctor is through a health center. The 1177 Healthcare Guide provides a list of all healthcare providers in Sweden and usually contact information for booking appointments.

For example, if you have a toothache, you should instead see a dentist, who can also issue sick leave certificates.

Insurance

Having the right insurance as an independent contractor is often crucial when, as a private individual, you choose and compare who to use when you invoice without a company and corporation tax. With us it’s simple: when you register an assignment with us you are an independent contractor through us and you work under our company registration number and corporation tax, so it’s essential (and a good thing) that you’re insured. For you and for us.

With Cool Company you’re insured round the clock when you’re out working. We work with Movestic Liv & Pension for our personal insurance. The policies are valid in Sweden, Norway and the EU. Your insurance is always divided into two main parts – personal insurance, which protects you as an individual, and third-party liability insurance, which protects you should you cause an accident or injury while working on an assignment at your client’s site.

You are safe with our insurances

Accident insurance applies if you injure yourself at work or on the way to or from work. It provides compensation of up to 30 price base amounts for invalidity (both medical and financial invalidity).

The accident insurance also covers costs that arise in connection with the injury, such as clothing, travel to the hospital and costs for visits to the doctor. It also encompasses costs for rehabilitation and assistive devices, and compensation for permanent injury. Cool Company’s accident insurance is valid round the clock.

The second element of the personal insurance is group life assurance, which is a life assurance with death-in-service benefit.

The combination of accident insurance and group life assurance corresponds to the protection offered by Swedish collective agreements.

Third-party liability insurance is a form of property insurance. It provides protection and compensation if something breaks or an object is damaged when you carry out an assignment. For example, if you are laying flooring and drop something that damages or ruins the flooring, or if you are cleaning and knock over a vase that breaks.

However, third-party liability insurance is not only for physical objects, but also protects against so-called pecuniary detriment. This is important to be aware of if you work as an IT consultant or a consultant in finance, accounting, training, marketing or sales.

Pecuniary detriment is the term for damage that arises if, for example, an IT consultant carries out programming and as a result the client’s business operation does not function, or if a freelance economist does bookkeeping and as a result the client is caused damage.
